Rendering Plants

The Ultimate Cover-up

And What about rendering plants?  Most people have never even heard of a rendering plant, let alone what products originate from them.  Howard Lyman explains it better than anyone I know!  This is the ultimate cover-up, the rendering plant!

“when a cow is slaughtered, about half of it, by weight, is not eaten by humans; the intestines and their contents, the head, hooves, and horns, as well as bones and blood.  These are dumped into giant grinders at rendering plants, as are the entire bodies of cows and other farm animals known to be diseased.  Rendering is a $2.4 billion-a-year industry; processing 40 billion pounds of dead animals a year.  There is simply no such thing in America as an animal too ravaged by diseased, too cancerous, or too putrid to be welcomed by the all-embracing arms of the rendered.  Another staple of the renders’ diet, in addition to farm animals, is euthanized pets—the six or seven million dogs and cats that are killed in animal shelters every year.  The city of Los Angeles alone, for example, sends some two hundred tons of euthanized catch of animal control agencies, and road- kill.  Road-kill is not collected daily, and in the summer, the better road-kill collection crews can generally smell it before they can see it.  When this gruesome mix is ground and steam cooked, the lighter fatty material floating to the top get refined for use in such products as cosmeticts, lubricants, soaps, and waxes.  The quarter of which consists of fecal matter.”

Gwen Shorter’s Health Manuel And Receipes ( Earton, NY: Homward Publishing 2002 p117)

“At the plant, the bodies are all dumped together into a huge cooking pot which generates intense heat.  After a certain period of cooking, the bodies are subjected to a process of extreme pressure in order to extract the fat from bones, skin, etc.  Old cooking grease picked up from restaurants is also added to the pot.  It is the rendered fat which constitutes the final product of the plant.  One can imagine the horrible stench of the diseased and decaying conglomeration of cooking carcasses.  But the thing that astonishes me the most is the way in which the extracted greases is utilized.  The great majority of the product is sold for women’s makeup, especially to manufacturers of lipstick and eye makeup. Some of the most prestigious cosmetic companies in the country are the chief customers of rendering plants.  Anyone looking at the elegant ads portraying glamorous models wearing beautiful “makeup” would never suspect even a hint of the refined, colored and properly perfumed oil being derived from skunk, opossum or pig!  How much of this abominable blend do you suppose has been ingested into the body from the lips and the pores of the skin?  Should we not be aware of the content not only of what enters the mouth but also what soaks in through the pores of the skin?”

Health Freedom News,  January/February 1991

Is there really a lot of difference between the beauty program of those savages and modern “civilized” people?  Are not the practices of both based upon the same principles of human pride?  In one case the pig grease has been refined, colored and properly perfumed; the other has stayed closer to nature and is used unrefined.

“Another interesting question is also posed by the contemporary use of such concoctions by a growing number of Christian women.  How much of the abominable blend has been ingested into the body from the lips?

“I speak plainly; but if we are so careful to read the labels for ”vegetable shortening,” should we not be aware of the contents of all that enters the mouth?

“Through gradual compromise and conformity the “unclean” things of the world have intruded more and more into the Christian life-style.  Surely the time is ripe for a revival and reformation which will lead us back to the old foundations which have been so long neglected.”

The Food and Drug Administration has told cosmetics makers they can no longer use brain and spinal cord tissue from older cattle in lipstick, hair sprays, and other products, reports the associated press.  The fact that they were used at all will likely surprise millions of women who use these products daily.  And that’s not the only surprise.  The new FDA regulations still allow use of these animal tissues in cosmetics as long a they come from younger cattle…

Campaign for safe Cosmetics report it found lead in top brands including L’Oreal, cover Girl and Christian Dior.

A significant proportion of lipstick manufactured in the United States and used by millions of American women contain surprisingly high levels of lead, the campaign for safe cosmetics said Thursday.

According to new product tests, 61 percent of brand-name lipstick tested contained detectable levels of lead, which can be toxic if ingested.

     Uncovering more of the cover-up:

A little bit…soon adds up!

“GRAS (‘generally regarded as safe’) by the FDA if used ‘within limits,’ many of these chemicals are in many of the everyday items people use and eat, so a little bit here and there soon adds up.

“In 1958, the FDA grand-fathered the use of several ingredients as safe for personal care items, within limitations.

Carol Rados

Since that time there has been no testing for long- range side effects from the constant use of these specific products.  It has been proven that these can be absorbed into the blood stream.  And technically, by using these chemicals in their products, manufacturers are not doing anything ‘illegal’ according to government standard.”

Health Freedom News  January/February  1991

Potentially, the public is as much at risk by naively using these chemicals, as we were 40 or 50 years ago with cigarette smoke.  Today, tobacco companies are required to have warning labels on their products.  Unfortunately, manufacturers who use chemicals that have been proven to cause cancer, mutations in humans, and other debilitating health problems and diseases, are not required to carry similar warnings.

Surprisingly, on the side label of a popular child’s bubble bath, beneath the directions and list of ingredients (which included Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth). Appeared this warning:

“Caution: Use as directed.  Excessive or prolonged exposure may cause irritation to skin and urinary tract.  Discontinue use if rash, redness, or itching occurs.  Consult physician if irritation persists.  Avoid eye contact: if contact occurs, rinse with water.  Keep out of reach of children.”

The following letter from a physician friend will shed more light on how we are poisoning ourselves from the outside in.

     “Wake Up, We’re Killing Ourselves!”

     Dear Friends:

According to the American Cancer Society, less than 100 Years ago only one out of 800 people were stricken with cancer.  Today that number has risen to one out of three women and one out of two men, and these numbers are expected to worsen by the year 2002.

As a Family Practitioner with some special expertise in preventative health, I started to do some research behind these sobering statistics.  According to a two year study concluded in 1997 by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Toxicology Program a chemical called Diethanolamine (DEA) when applied to the skin, resulted in clear evidence of carcinogenic (causing or contributing to cancer) activity.  The most alarming part of this study is that this chemical (DEA) is found in your favorite soaps, shampoos, bubble baths, shaving creams and over 600 other home and personal care products.

DEA is not the only dangerous chemical to be concerned with.

For your protection, please check your shampoos, lotions, deodorants, toothpaste, etc. to see if they contain any of these known harmful toxins:

Sodium Lauryl(or Laureth Sulfate (SLS or SLES)

     Propylene Glycol (PG)

     Ammonium Laureth sulfate

     Isopropyl Alcohol

     Fragrance

     Chlorine

     FD& C Color Pigments

     Imidazolidinyl Urea & DMDM Hydantoin

     Triclosan

     Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

     Stearalkonium Chloride

     Petroleum

     Mineral Oil

     Aluminum

     Pareben (methyl, propyl, butyl)

These are only a few out of hundreds (out of hundreds) Of the suspected hazardous chemicals that should not be touching your skin or hair.  All cosmetic ingredients have the potential to be absorbed directly into your body through your skin, where they may start to adversely affect your health.

You can start today on reducing your exposure to these harmful toxins and begin to strengthen your immune system.  If you would like to become more knowledgeable on ways to avoid these toxic chemicals that may adversely impact your health and that of our children and grandchildren, please contact my associate who gave you this letter.

Sincerely

Matthew R. Silver, M.D. A.B.EP.
